Long absence of science and technology orientation in Nigeria is responsible for the country’s economic woes, the minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said.
Dr Onu spoke in Abuja when he received a delegation from the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) led by its chief executive officer, Prof Adewale Solarin.
The minister said successive Nigerian leaders had neglected science and technology and had failed to let Nigerians know about its importance.
He said Nigeria only had a science and tech ministry 20 years after it gained independence from the British, a situation which robbed the country of early scientific inventions.
