Tesla has unveiled the Cybercab, an autonomous vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals.
Tesla’s goal is to start building an all-electric, fully autonomous robotaxi by 2027. One of the Tesla prototype vehicles is currently on display at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles, California.

This is a capability other robotaxis offer for those rare moments when an operator is required to assume control of the vehicle. Having someone deployed on-site every time a driverless car gets stuck would be impractical.
Tesla’s robotaxis may have been designed as a driverless car, but they will still need a safety driver in control of the vehicle in the initial testing phases.
