ACADEMIC TECHNOLOGISTS NOMINATES OGUNTALA FOR EXCELLENCE AWARD

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), has disclosed plans to honour the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala,

According to the body, the award presentation to Madam President will be one of the high points of activities at the organisation’s national delegates conference slated to hold between April 24 – 26, at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), Federal Capital Territory.

President of NAAT, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma who was accompanied by some officials spoke during a courtesy visit on Madam President at the National Engineering Centre (NEC) Headquarters, Abuja, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, said the Executive Committee of the body arrived at the decision to honour the NSE President for her noticeable professionalism, astuteness and exemplary leadership.

Comrade Nwokoma who commended the input of the Society to the economic development of the country by way of tireless advocacies urged the Society to continue on such noble path. He said NAAT was desirous of forging closer ties with the NSE in capacity building activities as well as other areas of mutual benefit. He also made an appeal for NSE to, in conjuction with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), eliminate
hinderances or soften the rules that may cause hinderances to the registration of some of the association’s members who are Polytechnic graduates of engineering-based disciplines.

The visitors were received by the Deputy President, Engr. Ali A. Rabiu, on behalf of Madam President. In responding to the visitors, the  DP said their visit was indeed a testament to the spirit of collaboration and partnership which underpins NSE’s mandate in its commitment to advancing engineering and professionalism in the country. He further said that NSE values collaborations with organisations such as NAAT as NSE recognises the critical role of academic technologists in shaping the future of education and research in the country.

He thanked the NAAT President for their thoughtfulness in nominating the NSE President as a recipient of the association’s Award of Excellence.

Engr. Rabiu further acknowledged the special interest of the NAAT President by his request to NSE with regards to liaising with COREN in order to get some of his members with engineering-related qualifications registered. On that, he told him that NSE has been eager to admit graduates of engineeringrelated courses, highlighting that there is sufficient publicity which has created awareness for the benefit of the holders of such qualifications.

He therefore told Comrade Nwokoma to urge holders of such qualifications to immediately swing into action by ensuring that the meet up with the stipulated bridge courses to become registrable as bonafide Engineers.

Finally, the Deputy President assured the visitors of NSE’s readiness to provide professional advice that will aid the Association in the construction of their secretariat complex expeditiously.

The Executive Secretary of NSE, Engr. Joshua Egube, FNSE, was with also present at the meeting.
