Energy Security: Solar Power as a viable Alternative

Governments, industrialists and residents have been advised to make use of solar with sophisticated panel known as bifacial cell to break the barrier of epileptic power supply in the country.

The Managing Director of Protogy Global Service , Engineer Ademola Agoro made the call during a public lecture organized by the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Ado Ekiti Branch.

Speaking on the theme of the lecture”SOLAR ENERGY DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS ENERGY SECURITY IN NIGERIA POWER SECTOR, Engineer Agoro explained that such would also reduce cost of money expended to transmit and generate power by government.

He said for the use of solar power to be effective in the country, government should put in place regulation that would prevent people from bringing substandard solar panels to the nation.

He explained that the cost to install solar power was friendly compared to money paid to power providers monthly.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers NSE, Ado Ekiti Branch, Dr Oluwasegun Aluko lamented that current prices of petrol and diesel were unbearable, hence the need for every Nigerian to embrace solar source of power.Dr Aluko noted that solar source of power had been adopted in developed countries and some African nations, saying Nigeria should not be an exception.
