The SUNREF Nigeria Programme is seeking to award scholarships to qualified professionals to obtain ‘Certificates of Competence’ in Mini-Grid Design (MGD) & Solar Photovoltaic Installation Supervision (SPVIS).
This scholarship is offered to experienced professionalsonlyin the Renewable Energy (RE) sector under the National Skills Certification Scheme by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
The Certification Scheme was launched in November 2021 through the support of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) II, a technical assistance programme which is funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power (FMP).
This scholarship offer is part of the SUNREF Nigeria initiative to ensure technical support and standard practices in the sustainable energy sector, by strengthening the capacity of stakeholders.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants that will be considered for the scholarships must meet the following criteria:
- Have proof of Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency project experience of at least five years
- Have proof of add-on qualification(s) as applicable and/or proven demonstration of tasks performed which are related to the certification in view
- Show proof of employment or ownership of a clean energy business with at least five years of project experience accrued to the business
- Have an extensive list of projects completed including active sites, with evidence of at least three projects completed over the five years between 2015 -2022

This is a good initiative. The engineering monitoring must be enforced without compromise to encourage professionalism.
