On 31st of August, 2022, as part of its efforts toward deepening the University’s community relationship and also build partnership with relevance institutions in the state, the Vice-Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the paramount ruler of Offa kingdom, his royal majesty, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, the Esuwoye the first (1st).
Aibinu who is a Professor of Mechatronics Engineering used the occasion to acquaint the monarch of the vision and mission of Summit University and and how it impacts Offa kingdom in general. He pointed out that Offa and its environs will greatly benefit from the presence of the University in many ways. Among which include the transformation of Offa to a knowledge hub; financial literacy skills; promoting intellectual, entrepreneurial and cultural activities which would in turn enhance economic activities in the state in general. He also revealed the plan of the University to equip graduates from Offa with necessary skills that will boost their chances of becoming gainfully employed.
He pointed out that Offa is arguably the only town in Nigeria with the highest concentration of tertiary institutions existing in very close proximity. This, he believes places the town in good stead of becoming an intellectual and technology hub within and beyond Nigeria. As a result of this, the university is has been pushing ahead with it is efforts to equip learners with drone building and piloting skills as well as the use of artificial intelligence to solve some common societal problems among others.
On his part, His Royal Majesty Oba Muftau Gbadamosi recounted the effort he has put in place at ensuring that the challenges, limitations and infrastructural gaps he met on ground were strategically addressed. Among his achievements are; the facilitation of a yearly festival that attracts all and sundry to Offa in the form of the Ijakadi Festival, facilitating the development of infrastructures which were hitherto not available and upgrading existing ones.
he added that Offa is known to be the home of sweet potatoes and Oba Muftau revealed his efforts towards facilitating the production of bread from sweet potatoes by the people of Offa.
The highly revered Monarch appreciated the Vice-Chancellor of Summit University, Offa and his team for aligning with his vision of “Offa tun tun” (a new Offa). He assured the management of the University of his unwavering support. he commended the University’s management for the drive aimed developing innovative skills that will make graduates employable.
The acting Registrar of the University, Mallam Mustapha AbdulKadri expressed his profound appreciation to the Oba and his palace on behalf of the Proprietor, Council, Management, Staff and Learners of the University for the warm reception and thanked the Monarch for his consistent support to the University.
Prior to the visit to the palace, the Vice-Chancellor had earlier paid courtesy call to almost all the tertiary institutions in Offa town among which include: The Federal Polytechnic, Offa; Grace Polytechnic, Offa; Lenz Polytechnic, Offa; Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa; and others.
SUMMIT University Seeks Collaborations With FEDPOFFA Management
