The Chief Executive Director of Onadipe Technologies and founder of Internet Safety Magazine, Mr. Rotimi Onadipe has warned the public to be cautious of fraudulent websites to avoid being vulnerable to internet fraud.

Onadipe, an advocate of internet safety gave the warning in Ibadan at his organisation’s weekly lecture on internet safety held on June 25th, 2022. The theme of the lecture is “SAY NO TO INTERNET ABUSE, SAY YES TO INTERNET SAFETY”.

He said: “In today’s digital age, the internet has become a powerful tool used by cyber criminals to commit different types of fraud. We must be informed that one of the tricks used by cyber criminals is to create a fake website and use it to steal personal information of unsuspecting victims.”

“Don’t allow your personal information to get to the wrong people that can use it for criminal purposes. Before you provide your personal information on any website, make sure the website is secure.”

“Always double-check, ask sensitive questions about the website from other internet users, do an online search about the website, watch out for spellings and errors, beware of free gifts and get-rich-quick syndrome. You must be suspicious when it sounds too good to be true and report any suspicious website to relevant agencies for immediate action,” he added.
