NIEE Confers Fellowship on Margaret Oguntala

The Managing Director Bamsat Nigeria Ltd, Engr Margaret Oguntala, has been conferred with the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, (NIEE ) fellowship.

The NIEE National Chairman, Engr. Olalekan Emeka Sulaiman Ajani, on behalf of the Council, conferred membership on Oguntala during the 20th International Conference conferment and Annual General Meeting Opening Ceremony. The event held at Green Legacy Resort, Presidential Boulevard Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun state on Thursday 28th October 2021. The 20th International Conference’s theme is “Energy Sustainability for an Improved Environment”. It attracted members across the country.

The honour bestowed on Oguntala was in the recognition of her dedication and contributions to the environmental engineering profession and advancement of sustainable development.

Oguntala, a 3 term Vice president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers is also the South West Representative on Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian, COREN. A Chemical Engineer, and product of University of Benin, with a career that cut across; the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Afro International Enterprises, where she rose to become Marketing Manager, before establishing her company in 1992.

In her 35 years of postgraduate experience, Oguntala has garnered experience in various fields of Chemical engineering and Management. She has also kept herself abreast of her career by attending many local and international workshops/seminars.

At Bamsat Nigeria Limited, where she is MD/CEO as well as Managing Partner of Bamsat Engineering Services Ltd, She has been involved in Environmental consultancy, fire/safety and civil/mechanical engineering services respectively. Under her leadership, both companies have grown in leaps and bounds with clients such as NNPC, First Bank Nigeria PLC, Guinness Nigeria PLC, Afe Babalola University and a host of others.

RECOGNITIONS

In recognition of her achievements, efforts and professionalism, she was inducted into Nigerian’s Construction & Engineering Industry Hall of Fame on 15th September 2017. Similarly, she was conferred with the fellowship of Institute of Management Consultant on 1st February 2017.

Oguntala, popularly called Erelu is the first female Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch. During her tenure as Chairman, the Branch came first and second among the Branches of NSE nationwide. She succeeded in completing the first phase of the Branch Secretariat, named after its first Chairman, Late Engr. Ralph Adeola Alabi. She is a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, NSE, Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers, She is a member of Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN which she served at national level.

She has served the Nigerian Society of Engineers in various capacities including being elected as Vice President. Engr. Oguntala brought a new innovation into this office by seeking Partners for the Society to improve the visibility and finance of NSE as well as the welfare of members. Notable among them was Samsung. In the year 2014, NSE signed an MoU with Samsung Electronics thereby allowing members to enjoy 10% discount on Samsung products. NSE got a mention in all Samsung fora, received giant refrigerators which were given out as Prizes at the welfare night of World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructures, WECSI 2014 and cash payment of about $82, 000 (Eighty-two thousand USD).

Advocacy

Oguntala champions investment in Mandatory Continuing Professional Development and advocates the need for engineers to constantly update themselves regardless of where they started or where they are in their career, and in whatever field of engineering. This, according to her, will make them not only locally relevance, but globally competitive.

wp 16246778903364198269918470636290A mentor to many young engineers and advisers to many engineering associations across the country, she canvasses a new approach towards engaging young Engineers with views to assist them overcome their peculiar challenges. Recently, she was awarded Mother of Engineering by NUESA, University of Abuja for her roles in supporting aspiration of budding engineers.

As part of her efforts, she has also sponsored trainings for young engineers to update themselves. Examples of recent ones are AutoCAD training which has been held in Kaduna, Benin, and currently in Lagos and still counting. She also supported six weeks training of young people in Solidworks.

Margaret has received over 50 awards and accolades in the course of her service to her profession and humanity.
