SPEECH BY THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN, ENGR. PROF. MOHAMMED BABA NDALIMAN, MNSE, FNIMechE, FIMC ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURATION OF NIMechE ABEOKUTA CHAPTER AND INVESTITURE OF THE PIONEER CHAIRMAN AND EXECUTIVES.

I give glory to Almighty Allah, the Lord of the worlds, who decrees matters and direct as He pleases. I glorify Him for making it possible to convene today, 11th March, 2021 in Abeokuta.
This gathering is for inauguration of the Abeokuta Chapter and the Investiture of the 1st Chairman.. With today’s inauguration, the Institution’s chapters now stand at 29, and student chapters remain 32, all spread across the length and breadth of the country. The members of NIMechE as of today stands at two hundred and eighty-four (284) Fellows, four thousand, six hundred and thirty-four (4,634) corporate, two hundred and eighteen (218) associates, two hundred and seven (207) graduates, with over five thousand (5,000) students, and eight (8) corporate firms. Efforts are currently on to get Mechanical engineers in Ile-Ife, Lafiya, Ajaokuta and Gombe organized to form chapters in their domains.
NIMechE is the premier Institution for professional Development, Knowledge acquisition and dissemination of Mechanical Engineering and allied discipline in Nigeria. It functions in the professional training and manpower development of its members (Engineers, Technicians and allied disciplines) and equip them with requisite skills for practicing.
Let me officially, welcome Abeokuta Chapter to the fold of the nation’s foremost mechanical engineering Institution. To the brand-new chairman, Engr. Dr. Adekunle Ibrahim Musa, FNIMechE, I congratulate you for putting so much efforts to ensure that today’s inauguration becomes a reality. Other members of the inauguration committee, and the incoming EXCO members in general are also included in this commendation.
I want to point out the various areas that new chapter should focus on, in order to progress rapidly. These include; regular monthly meetings, organizing workshops/trainings, mentoring of the budding members of the Institution and relating with both governmental and non-governmental organizations on the need to employ professionalism in all engineering projects. The need to embark of vigorous membership drive cannot be overstressed. The chapter should also take the welfare of members seriously.
On the other hand, the chapter is also urged to take-up sponsorship/hosting of some National programs, such as special lectures by distinguished members of our profession like MEDL, Annual Conference/AGM.
Finally, let me thank the senior members of the profession who have contributed in one way or the other to the success of today’s ceremony.
On this note, on behalf of the Council of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, I DECLARE the Abeokuta Chapter Inaugurated for conduct of its professional activities.
