Engr. Dr. Godwin Ekong holds B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering with (2.1) from the University of Uyo. He also holds a M.Sc in Turbomachinery and PhD in Engineering both from the University Of Sussex, specializing in Turbomachinery.
He was the best M.Sc student in Technology, University Of Sussex, United Kingdom in 2006/2007 session.
Dr. Ekong is a lecturer in the Department Of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty Of Engineering, Akwa Ibom state University (AKSU). He was a staff adviser, The Nigerian Institution Of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) AKSU Chapter.
Engr. Dr. Godwin Ekong he’s currently the state chairman Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) Akwa Ibom State chapter.
He was the Departmental Chairman, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) accreditation committee 2016 of the Department of Mechanical Engineering AKSU for the full accreditation in 2016.
He is currently the Departmental Chairman, Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation committee 2018 of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University.
Prior to Godwin’s current post at AKSU, he was a researcher of the Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre for Aero-Therma Systems, United Kingdom. He is a Rolls-Royce trained and certified research engineer.
A reviewer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) 2013.
He is an Excellence and Service award recipient from NIMechE AKSU and Akwa Ibom State Chapters respectively.
General interests include: Gas turbine engine technologies, including Turbomachinery design, internal air systems and other flow system design for gas turbine engine applications; mechanical equipment and system optimisation; creativity, creativity tools and innovation, especially their application in industry including structured brainstorming, lateral thinking and Teoriya Rsheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadatch (TRIZ), design process and design rationale; concept and system design. Management of the maintenance, repair & overhauls (hanger) section and general airport operations using 40 inventive principles.
He is actively involved in engineering research and development which include but not limited to Advances in Aerospace technology and problem Solving in Engineering Education, research and Practice.
He has contributed to 13 international refereed journals, conferences and technical publications.
He has been involved in research and development as a co-investigator with Rolls-Royce plc and the European Union (EU), in an EU Framework 6 programme known as New Aero Core Concept (NEWAC).
He has attended over 140 conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes. And has presented ten (10) technical presentations in six (6) international conferences organized by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and European TRIZ Association (ETRIA).
He is from Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
