The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Okigwe Branch, Imo State on the 4th of March 2021, visited the Standards Organisation Of Nigeria (SON) Imo State Office in order to form a synergy with SON in respect to collapsed buildings in Imo State. This visit also commensurate the World Engineering Day.
The NSE Okigwe Branch, led by the Chairman, Engr. Godwill in his opening remark talked about collaborating with SON in identification of substandard building materials and non conformities especially in buildings under construction.He also pointed out the need to proffer engineering solutions to the reoccurring instance of building collapse in Imo State.
The State Coordinator, SON Imo State Engr. Rose Madaki in her response, said the visit was needed so as to identify areas of collaboration between SON and NSE especially in the area of identifying failure in buildings and substandard building materials.
She also added that it is note worthy that the NSE as a body is part of elaboration of all Engineering Standards. This is because the input of the NSE is very critical in the process of elaboration of such standards.
The Chairman, Engr. Godwill used the opportunity to extend an invite to all SON Imo State Engineers to attend the upcoming NSE Annual General Meeting (AGM) tagged Coal City 2021 taking place in Enugu.
Conclusively, the Vice Chairman, Engr. Alozie Orji gave a vote of thanks stressing the need for synergy between SON and NSE.
