The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has said that it is organising conferences to return to the drawing board to explore the distinctive opportunities of engineering profession to advance technology.

The group said Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) would constitute significant steps forward in positioning engineering education as one of the main drivers in improving health condition and building social amenities.

Vice President of NSE, Aishatu Umar, who addressed the conference and annual meeting of the group in Abuja, said as practitioners, they needed to continue to learn new things long after formal education ends.

According to her, the conference has been planned to serve as an opportunity for them as Nigerian engineers to position others to be at the crest of the wave of the most significant impact that the nation needs.

“With the ongoing process of globalisation and demographic shifts around the world, and rapid pace of technology, engineering education faces strategic imperative to broad access to move from elite to mass system.”

Umar stated that “this has never been more true than today when we can see an accelerated pace of engineering innovations continuing for decades, which we view as answers to system.”
