The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN under the leadership of Engr Funmilola Ojelade is set for the 2020 International Women Day celebration in a grand style. The theme of this year edition is: “The Role of Women in shaping the World”
The event which is scheduled to hold via teleconference (one zoom platform) and offline and will feature speakers from Nigeria and UK. Some of who are Engr Mustafa Balarabe Shehu, Vice President world Federation of Engineering Associations, WFEO and former FEAO and NSE president, Engr Idiat Amusu, former President APWEN and first Graduate of Agricultural Engineering in Nigeria, Dr. Eva Viza, Dr. Robinson Ejilah, former National Chairman NIMechE, Engr. Dr. Patricia Opere-Odili, Barr Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Mrs Eniola Adefioye-Olugbake as panelists.
The event organised as part of the collaborations with SheEngineers, and sponsored by Royal Academy of Engineering UK with Dr. Felicia Agubata as project will be chaired by NSE President Engr Babagana Mohammed while COREN President Engr Ali Rabiu will be the Guest of Honour.
National Women in Engineering Day was launched for the first time in the UK on 23 June 2014 by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) to celebrate its 95th anniversary. Since that launch in 2014 the day has grown enormously over the subsequent years to the point where it received UNESCO patronage in 2016. In 2017, National Women in Engineering Day became international for the first time due to the interest and enthusiasm developed by the international audience and participants in the previous years. International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) was born to enable the celebration of women in engineering to become global.
Going into its 7th International Edition, the event will be marked in Nigeria for the first time courtesy of the SheEngineers,and UK Partner, University of West Scotland and Nigeria, Partner Tributary Learning Initiative. It is aimed toward developing diversity and inclusivity in engineering.
To mark the event in Nigeria, there will be mentoring walk activity starting at 10a.m to create awareness on the impact of mentoring in the society.
