NSE Oluyole visits the Polytechnic Ibadan to mark World Engineering Day with focus on young engineers empowerment

The Nigerian Society of Enginneers ( NSE), Oluyole Branch Celebrated the First World Engineering Day in grandstyle at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

The event took place on Wednesday, 4th March, 2020 at the TETFUND LECTURE THEATRE, Faculty of Engineering, South Campus, of the Institution . The theme of this year World Engineering Day is: “Engineering is for Creative minds and Sustainable Development.

Engr. Abdulrasaq Jimoh, the Chairman, NSE Oluyole Branch led the exco members and members of the branch during this epoch – making event.

Three series of lectures were delivered by accomplished Professionals . The first lecture titled : “Engineers without Borders: Advancing Sustainable Development Goals”, was delivered by Engr. Mrs. Olutayo O. Alli, The HOD, Department of Civil Engineering, The Polytechnic Ibadan. Her speech emphased the importance of Enginneers in Sustainable Development, focus of modern day engineering services, distinguished female engineers in Nigeria and others.

Mr. Oyeyinka Oyelakin, an entrepreneur and the CEO of Green Pasture Farms, Oluyole Estate handled the second lecture series titled: “How to be self sustained Entrepreneur”. He addressed the importance of Entrepreneurship in the face of highten unemployment in the nation, the application of theoretical methods to obtain useful benefits for entrepreneurs and the Nation building, challenges of young entrepreneurs, productivity indicies of a self sustain entrepreneur, etc .

img 20200310 wa0012 compress85 1411666078The last presentation was delivered by Mr Rotimi Afe of IHS Towers Strength. The title of the lecture was: “How to produce Productive Youths to reduce Hunger”. The speaker stressed the fact that Education is very important in nation building. According to him however, this is just a foundation laying for future generations of great leadership and followership. He pledged the continous support to engineers and engineering society.

Other highlights of the event was the presentation of Awards to two female Enginneers from the Polytechnic Ibadan for their dedicated mentorship to upcoming Enginneers. The two female Enginneers are Engr. Mrs Grace Fadiran, a computer Engineer and Engr Mrs Abolanle Ajibola, a Mechanical Engineer. The awards were presented by Engr. Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, the RECTOR of the Polytechnic Ibadan and the Special Guest of Honour.

IHS was also presented with award of Excellence and Recongnition of Corporate Support Services to Development of Engineering profession for Sustainable Development by Engr. O. A. Morakinyo, on behalf of the Branch . IHS Towers of Strength was the major sponsor of activities of World Engineering day marked by The Nigerian Society of Engineers Oluyole Branch.

Some of the dignitaries who graced the event were Engr. Prof. O. A. Ajayi of Department of Agricultural Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife who is an alumnus of the Polytechnic Ibadan since about 50years ago, Engr. B.O. Tijani, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, former Dean Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Dr. Taiwo Oyedemi and all the HODs of Faculty of Engineering, the Polytechnic Ibadan, notable engineers like Engr. Ademola Agoro, FNSE, Engr. N. Okorie, Engr. Wale Ojoawo, Engr Abiodun Alli, Engr. Olawale Jaiyeola among others .

The Rector Of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, had earlier canvassed for the initial training of Engineers at the Polytechnic level.

According to him, if government wants the best in engineering education, an initial training at the Polytechnic is of essence.
“The Polytechnic has propelled me to become what I am today,” he said.

The Chairman of the branch, Engr. Abdulrasaq Jimoh, said the day (Every March 4) was declared By UNESCO/WFEO To highlight the importance of Engineers And Engineering in national development.
