NSE Apapa organises public lecture: examines challenges in manufacturing sector

To compete in today’s manufacturing industries, it is very important for Engineers to optimize plant designs and choice of fuel for a more competitive power generation to achieve the best financial return for the business.

This was the final submission of the Guest Speaker, Engr Festus Wumi Omotoyinbo, FNSE at the NSE Apapa Branch (Golden Branch) Public lecture and Induction of New Members Ceremony held on Saturday 15th February, 2020 at Nigerian Ports Authority Sports Ground, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

Speaking on the topic, “High Cost of Energy in Industrial Sector – Exploring the Gas Solution”, the Head of Technical, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc. Apapa, Engr. F.W. Omotoyinbo, FNSE said Natural Gas provide a strong base for Industrial development. Hence focus should be on developing more gas infrastructure in particular when considering Fuel Pilferage, Quality, Reliability among others.

In his own Keynote address, the President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE who was ably represented by Engr. M.O. Odesanya, FNSE said, in the prevailing circumstances in Nigeria where electricity demand outstrips the supply and the supply is even epileptic in nature, creative and innovative solutions are necessary to address the power supply problem in the manufacturing sector. Therefore, he urged Engineers to explore the new innovative solution to address the shortage of power supply in Nigeria.

Highlight of the event was the induction of Eight (8) new Corporate members into the prestigious Nigerian Society of Engineers and presentation of awards.

Presenting the new members to NSE President, the Apapa Branch Chairman, Engr. Sunny Ighotegwono Ejeje admonished the inductees to be diligent in the profession and also be active in all the NSE activities even after their induction.

In attendance were the Special Guest of Honour, GMD Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, Mr. Paul Gbededo who was ably represented by Head of Engineering Bagco, Mr. Konstantius Tsiatsis, Past NSE Vice President and Pioneer/Inaugural Chairman NSE Apapa Branch, High Chief Engr. Babatunde Zedomi, FNSE, FNiMechE, Past Chairman NSE Ikeja Branch, Engr. Bola Bido, FNSE, General Secretary, NSE Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu among others.
