In a bid to breach the gap between learning and practice, the students of chemical/petrochemical engineering department
Akwa Ibom State University paid industrial visit to Notore chemical industries PLC, Onne, Port Harcourt.
The team was lead by the Ag. Head of Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering dept, Engr. Dr. Rasheed Babalola. Also in attendance are Examination Officer, Engr Umo Aniediong, Miss Iniobong , SIWES coordinator, Engr Emmenka Blessed, others are Mr Gerrard, a Laboratory Technologist
The team was received by the Plant manager, Mr Alaye Lawson and Group Head, QHSE, Dr. Mrs Iniobong Ogbonna on behalf of the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jite Paul Okoloko
The excursion began with detail lecture on Health Safety and Environment, QHSE by Safety personnel, Mr Emmanuel followed by lecture on production Processes of Ammonia and Urea/ Fertilizer plant by Mr Michael Obi of the production department.
The lectures were followed by plant tour where most of the Chemical Engineering unit operations were physical seen in operations.
More detail production process was explained by Chief sift operators of the Ammonia, Urea as well as sizing/ bagging section in the control room.
Another tour was taken to the jetty where both import and export ship are offloaded and loaded respectively and transported by the conveyor.
At end of the tour, questions time was granted with appropriate answers by both plant and safety operators.
Vote of thanks was given by the Head,Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering dept., Engr Dr. Rasheed Babalola, who extended the goodwill of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eno Ibanga and that of the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. D.K. Uko to the management and staff of company.
18 Application letters for SIWES was thereafter presented for consideration for 400level students who will be required to commence SIWES programme in the next few months.
Finally, the visit came to an end with collaboration request in the area of research and development.
