Babagana Mohammed Sworn in as 32nd President of NSE in a Colorful Ceremony

In a colourful ceremony that attracts dignitaries from all walk of life across the country, Engr Babagana Mohammed, has been sworn in as the 32nd President of Ngerian Society of Engineers, in Abuja yesterday.

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum alongside Senators Kashim Shettima and Abubakar Kyari on Saturday joined dignitaries from all over Nigeria for the investiture of a new President.

Engr. Babagana Mohammed, a native of Borno state, took over affairs as 32nd President of the umbrella body of engineers in Nigeria for a tenure of two years. Until his new office, he was deputy president of the NSE.

The new President had in the last 13 years held 22 positions in the course of his services for the NSE. He succeeded Engr Adekunle Mokuolu who served as President from 2018 to 2019. Mokuola was at the event to hand over the reigns of leadership to his successor.

The well attended event, with the theme, “Engineering infrastructure for unity and progress in Nigeria”, is held at the Africa hall of the international conference centre in Abuja.

High point of the event was the swearing in of the new President and ceremonial transfer of the symbol of authority from the immediate past President, Adekunle Mokuolu to his successor, Engr Babagana Mohammed.

In his remarks, Governor Zulum who is a fellow and member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers was excited that a son of the state is honoured to lead such prestigious body as NSE. He suggested the need for the country to diversify its means of income in order to strengthen the national economy and to create job opportunities for unemployed citizens.

On his part, the new president, Engr Babagana in his speech have set out his plans for the next two years. Top on the list is focus on Sustainable Development Goals while also actively promoting Innovations and support engineers who have potentials. His programme for the next two years also has a lot of focus on young engineers and their career development while laying emphasis on the need for skilling up young people to prepare them to be independent.

He further stressed on the importance of supporting young graduates by equipping them with skills relevant to the 21st century engineering practice.

He pledge his commitment to address pending issues within the engineering family and unite members.

The outgoing president, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, in his address advised the new president in upholding the ideals of the Society and ensuring that he gives his best to taking the Society to a greater height.

Gracing the occasion are: former minister of the FCT, Engr Abba Gana, Executive Governor Yobe, Hon. Mai Buni, immediate past governor of Borno state currently serving as a member of the National Assembly, Sen. Kashim Shettima, President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Engr Ali RAbiu past presidents of the society, fellows and important personalities both from within and outside the engineering . Royal Fathers from Bauchi and Borno also sent representatives.

Many sons and daughters of Borno, were in attendance to celebrate with the forst NSE President from the State. Also represented are senior staff members from National Engineering and Technical Company Limited (NETCO).
