The Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (Lagos Chapter) in collaboration with Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA) and Lagos State Safety Commission, (LSSC) has announced the date for its annual event tagged WALK FOR STABILITY 2019.
The date is scheduled as followed:
Saturday 14th December, 2019
This WALK is conceived to achieve three goals: creating awareness on state of infrastructures, maintenance, safety; creating an opportunity for networking among the participants under the atmosphere,; and serving as avenue for health and fitness goal.
The Chapter under the leadership of Engr Lola Adetona initiated the programme last year as a result of concerns that; Engineers only care about technical aspect of construction. It aims to use the social atmosphere to enlighten the public on the need to patronize professionals for Designs, Construction and Supervision of both Buildings and Infrastructures while also drumming up campaign for safe operation and create an awareness on good professional practices in our Built Environment .
“Let the Public STOP patronizing Quacks and start using Professionals. We need to start Building Right to put an end to Building Collapse in our State.” Said Engr Adetona in her press briefing.
“We know Lagos has been tagged to have one of the highest record of building collapses in Nigeria and for every building that fails, Engineers take the blame even though record has shown that no registered engineer has been part of any of the collapsed Buildings”. She said.
She called on members of the public, engineers from all divisions to join the *Walk for Stability” and play their part.
Participants are required to be at the Fire Service Station Alausa on or before 7 am for a row call before proceeding for the walk.
Limited Branded safety reflective Jackets for this event will available at the Chapter on first come first serve basis.
