Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja branch kicked off their 2019 engineering week today, 27th of August, 2019. The event took off with a public awareness on the use of pedestrian bridges. The engineers took time to enlighten the public on the benefits of using it as well as the danger of ignoring it; from accidents and loss of lives and traffic gridlock. They said that government spent a lot building pedestrian bridges for the safety of its people, so it should be utilised.
Thereafter the Branch converge for its press conference where it formally declared the 2019 Engineering Week Open. leading the presentation, the branch chairman Engr. Funmi Akingbagbohun, said that said that the Engineering week is a yearly event which the Branch use to round off the Engineering year. She said the branch uses the event to execute progarmmes of positive impact to the community every year.
Outlining the schedule of activities for 2019 edition, she said there will be a novelty match between the elders of NSE, Ikeja and members of the association of professional women of engineers (APWEN), the match will hold at Surulere on Wednesday. There will also be Elders night on Wednesday. The elder night is a special event where the veterans and elders of the branch converge in a cordial atmosphere to share moments and also as a way to celebrate and appreciate them for their visions for the branch. It also an avenue by the current leaders to interact with them and also reflect on the journey so far while charting the way forward.
On Thursday, 29th of August, there will be free medical screening for members of the branch. Specialists doctors will be on hand to provide this service while also engaging with members on health matters. The evening of the same day is scheduled for the branch’s Annual General Meeting.
On Friday, 30th of August, The Branch’s industry Partners will showcase their products in the morning, beginning from 10. a.m. The event will be rounded off with an Annual Dinner an award in the evening from 6pm. Personalities that have distinguished themselves in the profession in various sectors will be recognized. .
The theme of this year event is “Engineering innovation and Disruption- Huge opportunities in Nigeria.
