NSE Victoria Island’s First Babagana Muhammad lecture Series to focus on Workplace productivity

The Victoria Island Branch of NSE under leadership of Engr Rose Madaki has concluded plan for the first Annual Distinguished Lecture organised in Honour of its Founding Member, Engr Babagana Muhammad.

The event, scheduled to commence at 2p.m. on August 29, 2019, will hold at National Engineering Centre, Victoria Island,  will examine the theme “Workplace productive: the Roles of Engineers” .

The General Manager Offshore Operation, Exxon Mobil, Engr Elizabeth Essien will present the keynote address while many other distinguished personalities are expected.

Engr Babagana Muhammad, is a Fellow of NSE and NIMechE, and the current Deputy President of NSE, who is known for his detribalised nature and also his passion for engineering development.

A native of Maiduguri, Borno State. He had his academic educations at Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri where he obtained his National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and was offered employment by Chad Basin Development Authority as Technical Officer before he proceeded to obtain Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maiduguri and eventually graduated in 1992.

He joined NNPC/NETCO in  2002 as Senior Engineer (Piping) and has participated in many design projects in the Oil and Gas Sector among which are – NLNG Train 6, Agbami FPSO, Bonga FPSO, MOBIL EAP Project, MOBIL MIPS Project, CNL Produced Water Disposal Project, NNPC Refineries Rehabilitation Project, NNPC Refineries Technical Audit etc.

Engr Babagana was a founding member of NSE Victoria Island Branch and later its Chairman. He served for three (3) consecutive times as Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers before being elected as Deputy President.

He has won many awards in his career among which are: The Borno State Governor’s Award for the BEST STUDENT in Agriculture in 1981; Lagos Chapter of Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers Award for Meritorious Service to the Society and Humanity 2011, 2013 and 2017; The Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers Special Award for Meritorious Service to the Society 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016; The Nigerian Society of Engineers Special Award for service from Lagos, Zaria, Apapa, Katsina, Damaturu, Egbin, Enugu, Onitsha, Owerri, Victoria Island, Yola, Kaduna, Aba, Ibadan etc.

He has served the Nigerian Society of Engineers and its Divisions in many capacities over the years. Among which are: COREN Inspector in Victoria Island Inspectorate 2010, Chairman, NSE Victoria Island Branch, Chairman, Lagos State NSE Chairmen Forum 2013 to 2014, Member, Conference Planning Committee 2012, Member, Finance and Budget Monitoring Committee 2011, Member, Nigerian Content Committee 2012 and 2013, Member, Board of Directors of NSE Ventures 2011 to 2015, Vice President, Membership Services 2016; Member, NSE ONWARD STRATEGIC VISION 2016; Chairman, Engineering Regulation Liaison and Legislation Board 2016, Member, Engineering Regulation Liaison/Legislation Board 2017 and many more.
