Engr Wale Lagunju, the Chief Examiner of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ibadan branch, has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to comply with the Presidential Executive Order No. 5 on the engagement of Nigerian engineers.
Lagunju made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Friday while speaking on the contributions of engineers to the development of the nation’s economy.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Feb. 2, 2018, signed the Executive Order No. 5 to improve local content in public procurement with science, engineering and technology components.
He said that there had been minimal improvement in engaging Nigerian engineers since President Buhari signed the Executive Order No. 5.
Lagunju noted that there had been long-term neglect of engineers in the country.
“We will continue to let the government know the benefit of engaging Nigerian engineers in the development and provision of infrastructure in Nigeria.
“Even when the Executive Order No. 5 came out as approved by the President, President Buhari, we organised different symposia and different opportunities for us to discus on how Nigerians and Nigerian engineers could benefit from it.
“We are just reminding the MDAs of their responsibilities to engage Nigerian consultants, Nigerian contractors in the provision of infrastructure in Nigeria, ” he said.
Lagunju urged MDAs at state and federal levels to cooperate with Nigerian engineers and other professionals to develop the nation’s economy as well as put into practice the Executive Order No. 5 for the good of all.
