NICE Abuja to help address unemployment among young members

The Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Abuja chapter has said that it will help address the challenge of unemployment among its members. The 8th chairman of the Chapter, Engr. Dominic Onuh Akuboh, disclosed this while giving his inaugural address at a monthly meeting of the institution in Abuja.

Engr Akuboh said the chapter of the institution will continue to engage with senior members of NICE and members with private firms towards securing job opportunities for the unemployed ones among them even as he added that the career/job seekers management committee shall keep all concerned abreast of available openings.

“Job seekers will be encouraged to maintain a network of meaningful friends for the purpose of information sharing and networking as knowledge alone might not lead you to your desired job in this challenging times. The technical committee shall help arrange training opportunities to reinforce the qualification of our members for competitive job opportunities. Ultimately, my advice to job seekers is to start with what is available pending when the desirable will come whether within the field of engineering or not,” he said.

Engr Akuboh, who spoke on many issues relating to NICE, noted that of importance is the ability of members to take care of their basic needs, impact lives of others and stay in touch with their engineering professional bodies.

He said that engineering related work will come to members for execution and that “if and when we get the opportunity to recommend our members for employment, the process of nomination has to be fair and transparent.”

he however noted that his success will depend on the support and  unconditional goodwill of members, cooperation of fellow executive members and stakeholder sand assured that under his watch he will do all he can toward achieving goals he set.
