The Association of professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, APWEN Lagos Chapter under the leadership of Engr Adedapo Laolu-Aiseda as part of it relentless efforts at positioning more girls to take up engineering has initiated a “Take a Girl to Work” Day.
Buoyed by the need to ensure that girls not only study science, but also show interest in engineering, the association embarked on initiative to make girl child familiar with work environment as well as watch female engineers in action while learning a few things.
The aim of the day/event “Take A Girl Child To Work” is to broaden the understanding of secondary school girls interested in Science and Engineering by allowing them to see the work life of professional female engineers and gain hands on experience for a day.
12 Girls, representing Girls that are being taken to work by our members in various parts of Lagos State, were selected from 2 schools: Estate Senior Grammar #School and Ilupeju Senior Grammar School. They visited project site and office of LSDPC and Project PJT at Oshodi.
The team from the Chapter was led by the Vice-Chairman, Engr. Mary Afolayan; Gen-Secretary, Engr. Monsurah Alagbe, Publicity Sec, Ade-Adeleye Oladunni; Technical Sec, Engr. Kadiri-Adewale Sumbo, Engr. Yenne and Mistura Badru.
This is part of APWEN’s commitment to *encourage* the girls in preparation for a successful transition into the world of work, which will subsequently enhanced for them to reach the pick of their careers with excellence.
