DR EJILAH ROBINSON CONGRATULATES ENGR. DR. GODWIN ITU EKONG AS THE NEW NIMechE AKWA IBOM CHAPTER CHAIRMAN

On Friday, 31st August 2018, NIMechE Akwa Ibom Chapter scored another milestone achievement in its short history as it invest its second Chapter Chairman, Engr. Dr. Godwin Ita Ekong, MNSE, MNIMechE and the inauguration of his Executive Committee members at its annual AGM/Dinner at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The National Chairman, Dr EJILAH Robinson was indeed elated to witness firsthand what he described as a ‘seamless transition of administrative authority from one leadership to another’. He thanked the outgoing leadership of Engr. Ekerete Usak, MNSE, MNIMechE for his contributions to the development of the Chapter and Institution. He warmly congratulated Engr. Dr. Godwin Ekong, and also noted that his choice as a worthy successor did not come to him as a surprise, on account of his very encouraging antecedents. He assured him of his unflinching support and he is also looking forward to a closer working relationship with him as a new member of NIMechE National Council. The National Chairman urged members of the Chapter to support Engr. Dr. Ekong and his team to enable them accomplish the mandate of Institution.

In his inaugural address, the new Chapter Chairman, Engr. Dr. Ekong, thanked the NIMechE National Chairman for making time to grace his investiture. He also thanked his predecessor, for his tireless effort in running the activities and programmes of the Chapter during his tenure in office. He affirmed that ‘when the right key is given to the right man, development occurs!’ He pledged to do his best to move the chapter forward by providing the needed leadership that will enhance the professional development of its members.

Engr. Godwin Ekong holds a PhD’s degree in Engineering and specializing in Turbomachinery from the Department of Engineering and Design, School of Science and Technology, University of Sussex, United Kingdom. The same institution he graduated top- in- class as an M.Sc student in Turbomachinery, in 2006/07 session.

Prior to his present appointment with the Akwa Ibom State University as an academic, he was a researcher of the Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre for Aero-Thermal Systems, United Kingdom, where he was certified as a Rolls-Royce trained research engineer. He is also a member of 2 outstanding international research teams, namely; Rolls-Royce / University of Sussex, New Aero-engine Core Concept (NEWAC) Team, and the European Union NEWAC Team.

Dr. Godwin Ekong is actively involved in engineering research and development with specific interest in advanced aerospace technology. He has been involved in research and development as a co-investigator with Rolls-Royce and the European Union (EU), in an EU Framework 6 programme known as New Aero Core Concept (NEWAC). He has attended over several conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes, and contributed to 13 International refereed journals, conferences and technical publications.

Engr. Dr. Ekong also hold the membership of 6 professional societies, and these includes; Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET),Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE), and the European TRIZ Association (ETRIA).

He has vast experience in gas turbine engine technologies, including Turbomachinery design, internal air systems and other flow system design for gas turbine engine applications; mechanical equipment and system optimization; creativity, creativity tools and innovation, especially their application in industry including structured brainstorming, lateral thinking and Teoriya Rsheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadatch (TRIZ); design process and design rationale; concept and system design; management of the maintenance, repair and overhauls (hanger) section and general airport operations using 40 Inventive principles.
