The Institute of Appraisers and Cost Engineers, a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has called on the federal and state governments to seek the services of professional appraisers and cost engineers from conception to completion of projects.
President of the NSE Mr Kunle Mokuolu, who made the call in Abuja at the 2018 National Technical Conference of the Institute of Appraisers and Cost Engineers, said engaging cost engineers from inception of any project will save money and halt the spate of abandoned projects.
“Government must have the patience to go through the process of project delivery and provision.
The whole process is that you must know the cost of your project before embarking on it and you must know how you are going to fund it,” he said.
Chairman of the Institute of Appraisers and Cost Engineers, Engr. Charles Mbelede, said the institute, which is also a member of the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC), promotes the practice of engineering valuation, cost and engineering economy in Nigeria.
