Akingbagbohun receives West African Patriotic Leadership Award: dedicates award to Former President Andrew Patrick

The NIMechE Lagos Chairman, Engr Funmi Akingbagbogun has been conferred with the West African Patriotic Leadership Award, God Category. The award was issued by the Global Vision Communication.

The Gold Category Award of the West African Patriotic Leadership Award was recieved in presence of the former President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi FNSE who was the guest speaker at the event.

She dedicated the award to Patrick Adeiza Andrew, who died on the same day after brief illness. Patrick worked tirelessly from the inception of the National Students Forum of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers to ensure that the forum stands and grows in leaps.

Andrew Patrick is a Young promising young mechanical engineering graduate with a  great passion for the profession. He was the Second President of Student Wing of NIMechE, National Students Forum. May his soul rest in peace.

Who is Engr Funmilade Akingbagbohun?

ENGR.MRS. FUNMILADE AKINGBAGBOHUN; MBA, BSC. (MechEngr), MNSE, FNiMechE, MNIM,MASME,MSWE.

Engr. Funmi currently works as an engineer with Lagos state broadcasting corporation (Lagos Traffic Radio). Following her antecedent, she was deployed to build and start a water factory for the corporation (Radlag Water Ltd) as the pioneer project manager and the co-coordinator of the factory, she managed over 40 members of staff and distributors all over south west. She also oversees the generators, chillers and the water treatment plant for the organization. All these activities have yielded several awards within the organization; outstanding staff of the year (2008), and the overall best staff of the year (2009). She served as a supervisor and consultant for several engineering projects.

Professionally, she has served in several capacities in all professional bodies relating to engineering in Nigeria.Her passion for bringing the gap and encouraging young ones to start engineering early propelled her to start a program tagged “PROJECT SKILL” targeted at encouraging secondary school children to display their knowledge and understanding of engineering; this yielded a lot of publicity and sponsorship from various organizations and innovations to be developed commercially by the branch and manufacturing industries.

She also served the Nigerian institution of Mechanical Engineers (NiMechE) in several capacities. she served as the national membership secretary in charge of membership, publicity, media and socials, a position she held for three (3) years and which helped the institution to move up in group dynamics and large membership increment. She received several national merit awards due to her contributions. She has organized corporate social responsibilities (CSR) on behalf of the institution titled; ‘WALKING FOR AUTISM’. She served as member of various committees on business luncheon, covenant university mechanical engineering conference, programme and publicity, Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Lecture (MEDL) etc. She has served as the chairman for Lagos chapter of the Nigeria institution of mechanical engineer.

At the national level of the Nigerian society of engineers NSE, she served in the programme and publicity board, also served as the chairperson for the spouses programme committee of the CPC and has served as chairperson for the spouses’ forum, tagged, ‘SUNSHINE 2015’. She has served on the NSE/FRSC joint committee on child safety in vehicles and also on the committee for Women in Engineering of World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO) as the secretary.

She also find time to serve God in various capacities; she is the treasurer for ‘When Women Pray’, an interdenominational group, she also serve as an executive of Good women and the prayer squad, she is also serving as a minister at the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

She has organized various motivational and career uplifting for various higher institutions like; LASU, YABATECH, OSUN STATE UNIVERSITY, Lagos State Polytechnic etc. She pioneered a national student’s forum for mechanical engineering students where motivational talks, entrepreneurship training and practical experience are shared by corporate engineers already in the industry. Once a year during the AGM for NiMechE, the students also come together to have their conference, tagged ‘NATIONAL STUDENTS FORUM’.

She is currently working on internship programme for graduate students and empowerment programme for engineers inorder to bridge the skill acquisition gap between the classroom and the industry. She is a member of the society for Women Engineers (SWE), member of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (AMSE), also the national treasurer of the Association of professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN).

She served on the committee for “Introduce a girl with engineering” for young secondary school girls. She is currently working on a program for girls tagged,’ Invent It-Build it’ which would start next year.

She pioneered a program tagged,’ Innovation Challenge’ to help the skill gap and invention skill of mechanical engineering students in tertiary institutions in nigeria,a program sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering,UK which brouggt out several innovations in the area of agriculture,power supply,renewable energy and automation.

She was nominated for the skill acquisition program organised by Lagos state employment Trust fund and supported by UNDP to create employment for engineers.

She was nominated to serve on the committee for affirmative procurement for women in business organised by United Nations.
