The Chairman of Lagos Chapter of The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Engr. Mrs. Funmi Akingbagbohun, FNIMechE and the Executive members wishes to announce to the Public: AFRICA CATALYST 16/17 NIMechE INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2017 #NIC2017

 
The NIMechE Innovation challenge is supported by the Royal Academy of Science (UK) and executed by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) Lagos chapter in collaboration with IBLF Global (UK).
 
The innovation challenge which is targeted at students of Mechanical Engineering in Tertiary Institutions, Lagos Zone, is to support the discovery of new ideas and solutions in the area of:
 
  1.  Agriculture,
  2. Power Supply,
  3. Renewable Energy and
  4. Automation

which could potentially create jobs and promote development in Nigeria.

 
It is hoped that this programme will address issues of capacity building and strengthening engineering profession which will result in Nigeria growth as a nation.
 
ENTRIES
Entries will be accepted from all Mechanical Engineering Students Such students must be:
1. Registered as “Student Member” with NIMechE
2. Must be registered in the 2016/2017 academic session
3. Must be an individual or a team of not more than 2 persons
4. Must provide a Letter of Identification from his/her HOD upon request.
5. Must provide a detailed description and drawing of an “Original Idea” in recycling
 
CRITERIA
30 Entries and 3 winners will be selected based on the following criteria
 
  1. · Originality of idea – Ideas must be entirely original
  2. · Innovativeness – Ideas must present a better solution to an economic challenge in Nigeria
  3. · Cost Effectiveness – Ideas must be low-cost when replicating
  4. · Commercial Viability – Ideas must be suited for commercialization
  5. · Resourcefulness – Ideas must make use of locally sourced materials (local content)
