The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, has made its impact felt at both National and International arenas through its various activities that impact directly on the welfare and safety of the people as well as its robust contribution to the economy of the Nation.
This assertion was made by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing  Mr Babatunde Raji  Fashola at the high level policy forum on Engineering Accreditation and Mobility in Africa held recently in Abuja.
The minister said COREN as   the regulatory body set up by law to regulate the practice of engineering in all its aspects and ramifications and operating under the general direction of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing would always be supported by the ministry in the performance of its onerous mandate.

He  said, “ This  no doubt, places a big responsibility on COREN because Engineering is perhaps the largest profession in Nigeria, considering the number of Engineering practitioners, the various cadres involved and the number of different Engineering disciplines being offered in the higher institutions. No doubt, it is an enormous responsibility for which COREN should be given credit for its efforts.’’

He said also commended the effort of COREN in internationalizing engineering qualifications by coming up with the BMAS for engineering qualifications in Nigerian Universities that is acceptable to UNESCO, the Federation of Engineering Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) and the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre (ISTIC) for South-South Cooperation.
