NIMechE organises Student Conference at OAU as UNILORIN, OAU others shine in competitions

On the 20th March 2014, The NIMechE OAU Organized Students’ Conference at the Conference Center, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. The theme: The Dynamic Role of Mechanical Engineering in National Development and Sustenance: Roadmap for a Mechanical Engineering Graduate.

The programme was spread over three days, comprising: Sports Competition, Industrial visit to Prototype Engineering Development Institute, PEDI, Ilesha on 19th and 27th March 2014 respectively while the main conference was held on 20th March 2014.

This concept was designed to meet the following objectives:

  1. Presents an opportunity for the students of Mechanical Engineering from various institutions in Nigeria to come together, and network To encourage team work and publishing of new innovations
  2. To empower students by providing a great forum to showcase their ideas and get professional review
  3. To provide avenue for an interaction of engineering ideas and innovations. This could stimulate creativity, innovation and the determination of students to develop their latent skills.
  4. Presents an opportunity for the students of Mechanical Engineering from various institutions in Nigeria to engage in healthy competition for excellence among themselves.

On the conference day, three events were on card at the Conference Centre, OAU.

The event, which was held under the chairmanship of Engr. Dr. Uche Obiajulu FNSE,FNIMechE, started at exactly 11:05 a.m. NIMechE National Chairman was represented by Engr. Dr. Adeyemo, Immediate Pst Chairman, Lagos State NIMechE Chapter. while the Deputy President, Engr. O. T. Anyaeji was represented by Osun State NSE Chairman others in attendance aside the students are lecturers, invited Universities, and host of others. Over 233 people attended the event.

Three Universities from other south Western Universities attended the event and presented projects at the exhibition. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology presented Creep Testing Machine, while University of Ilorin presented Inverter Operating Vaccine Cooler and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Robotic Arm. Other universities however were unable to make it due to the conflicting academic calendar.

§ Best Presentation: Obafemi Awolowo University’s Robotic Arm
§ Most Innovative Design was not awarded as the scores were tired among the three designs on display.
§ Most Marketable: University of Ilorin’s Inverter Vaccine cooler.

UNILORIN won Otis Engineeing Quiz Competition
Participating schools are tested in the knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
